The US now dominates Bitcoin mining – does price follow hash rate or hash rate follow price?

The Bitcoin mining industry has moved from China to the U.S. What are the implications for the network, and does price follow hash or does hash follow price?

Gas cost of mapping lookup and update inside mint transaction compared to getting a variable and then interfacing with another contract function

I have a mint function that does a lookup in a mapping to get some data and then after some computation updates that keys value, and mints. For the specific use case, i’ve identified an option of deploying a seperate contract for what would be each of these keys in the mapping which just uses::Listen

I have a mint function that does a lookup in a mapping to get some data and then after some computation updates that keys value, and mints. For the specific use case, i’ve identified an option of deploying a seperate contract for what would be each of these keys in the mapping which just uses a variable for the data, and then interfaces with the mint function in the base contract. So the base contract would do no lookups or updates and contract B would just be grabbing a variable.

My idea is this would save gas on the mint function however I’m not really sure on the cost of mapping lookups compared to calling methods from another contract. Is this a silly idea that is just adding too much complexity for little gain or is it worth exploring? thanks
